Medicinal: Infusion of leaves and bark as an antiseptic, antitumor, spasmolytic, antiamoebic, emollient and to combat dermatitis, colds, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, to treat liver conditions and bone pain. The bark is used to cure ulcers and venereal diseases. The active ingredient is reported to be able to inhibit lymphocytic leukemia.

Wood: Manufacture of musical instruments, cabinetmaking, boxes, boards, sticks and pulp for paper.

This enormous tree attracts many insects that birds, including some fine-billed insectivores, search for in its large canopy. Insects and birds visit its flowers in search of nectar, although some parrots also feed directly on the flowers. Its fruits are also consumed by some birds.
